Crackdown on Hefazaat's rally: Distracted relatives in search of the missing

The relatives of the people missing from the massive rally called by Hefazaat-e-Islam in the dead of the 5th May night are searching for them distractedly. Mourning is going on among the relatives from door to door. They even do not dare to speak being afraid of torment by the police and the criminals patronized by an influential party.

Missing Hafez Sirajul Islam was a student of the Dawrah department of Miftahul Ulum Madrasa situatd in Maskanda at Mymensingh. He was at the gathering of Shapla Chattar. His elder brother, Nurul Islam, could not trace him despite of searching many places including Dhaka. His relatives are mourning at his home in Tulondhon under Ishwargonj thana. Mufti Muhibbillah, a professor at a non-government college, informed the Inquilab that Hafez Ataur Rahman, son of master Siddiqur Rahman of the village of Sutiapara Boula under Fulpur thana, was shot martyred in the dead of the 5th May night and was buried on 6th May in a local graveyard at his village. He also informed that Mawlana Abdul Wahab, son of Shah Newaz of the village of Talab under Valuka thana, was shot dead at Hefazaat’s gathering and buried in a local graveyard. Hafez Jonaid Hasan called Insan (18), a student of Jamia Mohammadia Nuria Madrasa who went missing from the Hefazaat’s gathering, has not been found yet. Sekander Ali Fakir (40), a farmer and son of late Moizuddin Fakir of the village of Katla under Adamdighi thana of Bogra, took part in the Hefazaat’s rally accompanied by some local workers of Hefazaat. His wife continues to be swooned since from getting no trace of his husband, father of her son and her daughter. His elder brother Azhar Ali Fakir yesterday burst into tears at Kamrangir Chor Madrasa, where he came in search of his brother. Mawlana Hafez Mainul Islam (27), son of Moqsudur Rahman of the village of West Bijoy Singh at Feni, also goes missing from the Hefazaat’s gathering on 5th May at Motijheel. He was the Imam of a mosque at Maijbaria. His wife and children are passing days weeping for him.

The district correspondent of Chandpur informed that Hefazaat-e-Islam Chandpur branch claimed their two members shot martyred during the Dhaka-seize program on 5th May. 18 more were shot. At least 50 workers were injured. Those 18 shot workers took treatment in different clinics at Dhaka & Chandpur. Those who attained martyrdom are Habib Ullah Munshi, son of Anu Munshi of Sen Bari of the village of Daichor at Kachua and Mahfuz Khan, son of Babul Khan of the village of Sokdi under Chandpur upazilla. They were buried at their familial graveyard, was told by Mawlana Anwarul Karim & Mawlana Junayed Hasan Mukhtar, general secretary & organizational secretary of Hefazaat-e-Islam Chandpur district respectively. It is heard that Sohel, a student of Kachua Ujani Madrasa, was also killed but the madrasa authority denied. Some sources, unwilling to reveal name, informed that the madrasa authority behaves weird centering Sohel’s death because of administrative pressure since the madrasa is in the constituency of the home minister. Even the family of the killed Habib Ullah Munshi has been threatened by both the cadres of the ruling party and the administration. Many are hiding the news of the killed and the injured due to administrative and political pressure. Meanwhile, Md. Esmayeel, the district commissioner of Chandpur, has ordered the secondary education officer of the district to cut salary of those teachers of the schools & madrasa who joined the massive rally called by Hefazaat-e-Islam and also has ordered to take other legal actions against them.
