democracy is not meant what actually it is

Most of the citizens think voting is the only thing of democracy. Because they don't know what actually democracy is? This is one of the vital reasons why people deprived of their democratic rights in our country. Yes, Voting is the first phase of democracy. But democracy is so multidimensional issue that it does not only include holding a poll. Democracy is taking part and giving our valuable opinions and thoughts in every functions of the state. Democracy place the citizens at the core point of the state as Abraham Lincoln says, " It is a government of the people, by the people, for the people". In the dictionary definition, democracy "is government by the people in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents".
So Democracy does not ends at polling. It includes the consideration of every citizen's thoughts about what should be done in the state.
We can test whether there is a democracy in a state or not.
A scholar says " When people fear the government there is tyranny, When government fears the people there is democracy.
What is the contexts in Bangladesh speaks a gloomy picture.
